The Simulation and Modeling for Acquisition, Requirements and Training (SMART) Conference has been an annual event since 1998. The purpose of the conference is to bring the requirements, acquisition, and training communities together to present SMART's strategic goals and vision, develop tasks to accomplish the goals and vision, and present M&S tools and techniques to the whole Army M&S community. Simulation and Modeling for Acquisition, Requirements and Training (SMART) is a change in Army business practices, through the exploitation of emerging M&S and other information-age technologies, to ensure collaboration and synchronization of effort across the total Army systems life cycle. The SMART Conference and Exhibit is the world's leading conference for military, academic, and defense industry concept developers, materiel developers, and trainers who use modeling and simulation (M&S) in concert with new information-age technologies to establish true collaborative environments that will enable faster, less costly fielding of the Objective Force. The SMART Conference and Exhibit demonstrates how making SMART the way the Army does business will increase effectiveness and efficiencies within the requirements (documentation and analysis), acquisition and training communities. The SMART Conference is key in that it provides a forum to: foster collaboration, participate in educational focus sessions, make/receive presentations on current SMART initiatives and related M&S developments, provide vendors/participants with the opportunity to Exhibit and demonstrate new SMART-enhancing technologies, and receive SMART implementation updates directly from the Army's Senior leadership. This year's conference in particular will provide a forum to: stimulate ideas for collaboration and implementation of SMART business practices among the Army's M&S domains, the automotive industry and academia. Agenda items will be particularly focused on implementing SMART as part of Army business practices in support of FCS and Objective Force fielding.
