Michigan Robotics Day

April 20, 2011

Ann Arbor, Michigan - Soar Technology was a proud sponsor of the inaugural Michigan Robotics Day on 12 April, 2011. Andrew Dallas served as the Chairman of the organizing committee. Michigan Robotics Day was held in conjunction with National Robotics Week which was inaugurated last year and sets aside the second week in April to promote robotics in the US. The intent of National Robotics Week is to:

  • Celebrate the US as a leader in robotics technology development

  • Educate the public about how robotics technology impacts society, both now and in the future, raise our national interest and ensure we apply the appropriate resources to maintain our country's leading position in the field of robotics

  • Inspire students of all ages to pursue careers in robotics and other Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math-related fields

MI Robotics Day will be an annual event to support these objectives. It is particularly fitting that this day is celebrated in Michigan because our state has always had a vested interest in robotics. Michigan offers a vibrant environment for the robotics industry: our young people are excited by robotics as evidenced by the fact that Michigan annually boasts the largest number of robotics teams participating in the national robotics competition for K-12 students called FIRST, the state has a number of engineering programs specific to Robotics, and we have the largest number of robots used in industry.
